Firefighters managed to save most of the home that caught alight on Thursday afternoon.
NSW Rural Fire Service volunteers rushed to Forest Hill shortly after midday, following witness reports smoke was billowing from a house on Schipp Street.
Donning breathing apparatuses, crews braved the heat and smoke to fight the flames inside.
An “aggressive fire attack” had the fire contained to the kitchen within 30 minutes, according to RFS Riverina officer Jonty Bruce.
About 16 firefighters were joined by the Ladysmith brigade, Fire and Rescue NSW members and NSW Ambulance paramedics.
Fortunately house residents were all safe and accounted for, so Mr Bruce said no one was injured.
He said an electrical fault in the kitchen appeared to have sparked the fire, causing significant heat and smoke damage to the rest of the building.
“Electrical appliances and faults cause almost 40 per cent of home fires,” Mr Bruce said.
“This is an unfortunate, but timely reminder to ensure that people don’t overload power points and power boards, regularly check electrical leads for damage and faults.”
He urged residents to also avoid using damaged electrical leads or appliances.
