A man attended a hotel on Banna Avenue about 10.30am on Friday and allegedly changed six $50 notes to use on the pokie machines.
Staff discovered the notes were fake shortly after the man had left the building, however, police were able to identify the man using CCTV footage and arrested him later that day.
The 27-year-old has since been charged with possessing counterfeit money, knowing it to be counterfeit.
He was refused bail before an appearance in Wagga Local Court on Monday morning.
He will reappear before Griffith Local Court in August.
