While re-signed coach Tom Yates isn’t discounting a miracle finish to make finals this year, he said building a base for 2019 is also important as the club prepares to get active in recruitment.
“Obviously you strive to play finals footy, and that’s where we want to be as a club,” Yates said.
“We’ll focus on getting to that level next year and get some players that we think will help us take that step.
“I don’t think we’ll change (the way we play) too much. You still want to play that quick moving footy and we'll focus on similar structures to what we've got this year and hopefully get a few of those key position players that we need."
Yates said finding some height, including a ruckman, is a priority.
Retention committee man Mick Mazzocchi said the club will ensure Yates has the support he needs.
"We owe it to Tom as a club to give him a side that is competitive to win a premiership,” Mazzocchi said.
“You've only got to look at our club's history. We've averaged playing grand finals every second year. Well, we've been three years out of a grand final now. That's too long. So we'll go back, as a club, and make sure we're competitive."
TRYC is the fourth club to confirm coaching plans for 2019 with East Wagga-Kooringal locking in Matt Hard this week and Marrar re-signing Shane Lenon for two more seasons earlier this year, while Temora locked in Jake Wooden for two seasons (2018 and 2019) when he re-signed last year.
The Pies are at home to Temora on Saturday.
