At least Dover’s 18 degree water is more inviting than the 8 degree Edward River.
“She rang me this morning, she said it feels toasty out there,” said the 37-year-old’s mother Beverley Norman.
On Monday, the former Junee High School student arrived on the shores of Dover to begin her onsite training.
“She’s really happy with how it’s going,” said her mother.
“The rib’s still sore, but she’s getting used to it. The infection is under control.
“I have total faith that she’s well-prepared and mentally strong enough to push through anything.”
Over the past two years, Brenda has raised $50,000 for her charity, Channel 4 Change, which supports community youth mental health.
“Deniliquin has had a fair share of tragedy from youth suicide, so this swim is about raising awareness for youth mental health,” Brenda said.
“It’s a hard swim, but I’m healthy and I can overcome it but those who are struggling with mental health problems they face obstacles every day. So it’s not about me, it’s about raising awareness for them.”
