Consistency, pressure and a willingness to work for one another were the highlights for Marrar coach Shane Lenon in his side’s 16.13 (109) to 3.8 (26) thrashing of The Rock-Yerong Creek on Saturday – a result which almost certainly drove the stake through the Magpies’ slim finals hopes.

The Bombers were strong from start to finish but six goals in the second quarter put the game away as the Pies, at home, went to the main break down by 53 points.
For the third week in a row Lenon was impressed with his team’s effort throughout. After missing last week due to illness, ruckman Matt Parks returned with a bang to continue his good form of the previous few games.
And up forward, the danger signs are there as Zach Walgers kicked four goals, Charlie Youngman kicked three in his second game at the club, as did Brad Turner in his second game since last year’s grand final.
“He was a whole lot better, he took some really strong marks,” Lenon said. “He kicked three and set up some goals, dishing some off. Him, Walgers and Youngman all worked really well together.”
Midfielder Josh Hagar also had a big game for the Bombers while Justin Driscoll led the way for TRYC on a rough day, along with Heath Russell and Tom Yates.
The Pies have the bye next week but are three wins out of the five, with five games to play.
Marrar are at home to Coleambally next week.
“I’ve been pretty happy with the last three weeks,” Lenon said. “Three weeks in a row our pressure and our ability to work together has been good. And the other positive is the consistency over the course of the game.”
Cal Gardner may be in danger of missing next week after a minor hamstring injury.
