Annabel Bowcher and her daughter Mia and son Lincoln are behind the Story Snatchers series and the first has been adapted into a play by Speaking Out.
“We have adapted the book quite a bit so the characters have even roles,” Mrs Bowcher said.
“The crucial story elements are the same.
“It started off a short story to help my son who has Irlen syndrome to get into chapter books then it sort of steamrolled from there.”
The book series aimed to raise awareness of a common known as Irlen Syndrome or perceptual dyslexia. both Mia and Lincoln have perceptual dyslexia.
Lincoln is acting the part of Spinner the Great Storyteller and is loving every minute of it.
“I find it more fun because I am not the character that I wrote,” he said.
“When we were writing the book I didn’t see it as a play and now that it is, I thought it was so cool and I was so happy after that.”
Directors Katie-Leigh Riley and Saasha McMillan from Speaking Out said they have enjoyed putting the play into action.
“It’s great. A play has special meaning when it’s local and you know the people involved,” Ms McMillan said.
“We have a really strong cast and the kids are loving what they are doing.”
The Picture Pinchers, the second book in the series is heading to the printers and will be out soon.
The play will be held from the July 16-18.
