A host of schools from across the region flocked to Bolton Park Sports Stadium for a day of jam-packed action that didn’t disappoint.
“We had kids here who had never played a game before today … it was just terrific,” Gray said.
Mater Dei and Young were standouts in the hotly anticipated under 16s boys division and breezed into the big dance.
Mater Dei looked certain to progress to the next stage after scoring three early goals until three late strikes from Young sent the grand final into golden goal.
A scoreless three minutes ensured, prompting the referees to call a thrilling penalty shootout in which Young emerged victorious.
Gray paid tribute to the administrative support of Football NSW but reserved special praise for the referees.
”They all did the training with us last year and they’ve been fantastic,” Gray said.
