Led by Marissa Lucas, an experienced rocker, students have the opportunity to gain confidence, network with other students with a similar musical ability, as well as learn from a challenging repertoire and form friendships.
“Students are getting a musical example but also a professional example,” she said.
“The incredible thing about this camp is that it comes from across the lower part of the state and drawing students in the Riverina.”
Since July 1, 55 students from 21 state schools have been broken into six groups and relocating songs to bands and then rehearsing those songs.
Many students auditioned for a spot in the camp, however only those with an intermediate to advanced level were chosen.
While senior performers were preferred, years 7 to 12 are also involved in the camp, which is being held at the Borambola Sport and Recreation Centre.
Each band will do three songs and at the end of the concert all camp members and vocalists will join for the finale.
The concert will be staged and managed by Kooringal High’s entertainment industry VET students.
Additionally, a team of photography and digital media students will produce a USB digital booklet over the camp’s duration.
The concert commences on July 5, 2pm at Kooringal High School performing arts venue and will finish at approximately 3.30pm.
The Rock Camp is one of this year’s 19 Department of Education major local arts programs located in the Riverina area, to create pathways of excellence for creative arts students in NSW public schools.
