The home side started well and steadily built, adding to an 11-point lead at quarter time to eventually win by 46 points, 14.5 (89) to 6.7 (43). 

It was the second year in a row they’d claimed victory against TRYC at Barellan.

The Pies were held to two goals a quarter until the last when they went without a goal.

The eight-goal win was after a strong finish from the Two Blues. They doubled their lead in the last quarter after Jack Hillman had put them in a strong position with a mark and goal late in the third quarter to be four goals up with a quarter to play. 

“It’s bloody rewarding to get it after a fair bit of work,” coach Will Overs said. 

Adding to the atmosphere, Barellan’s seconds had also got up.

“It’s nice, it’s rewarding. We’ve been chipping away for a long time and it’s nice to get the results. You enjoy these wins when they come along and hopefully they’re not few and far between and we can keep building,” Overs said.

Barellan had put a big emphasis on the opening quarter and didn’t look back after getting the start they’d wanted. 

The outcome was a hammer blow to TRYC’s slim finals hopes and will put some fear into other sides as Barellan, after a bye next week, aim up for three more home games in a row.

“We'd love not to have the bye of course. After a win, we’d love to keep on playing,” Overs said. 

“I have been saying for a while now to the guys, that we've got a lot of games at home in the back half of the year, so let’s make something of it and hopefully we can build some momentum.”

Hillman (four goals) had a big game as well as Mitchell Hawker in defence and Matt Irvin in trying to close down Brad Aiken. 

In another concern for TRYC, Aiken limped off late in the game. Heath Russell on a wing was the pick of the Pies, who face another big road trip next week, to Coleambally.
