Moments ago, Mr Hill managed to sell 168 lambs for a grand total of $276.20 at the Wagga Livestock Market.

It beat the previously held record by three dollars.

“I don’t know how long we’ll hold the record, we’ll definitely hold it dear to our hearts for as long as we can, but it could be gone in a week, a month, a year, who knows,” he said.

Mr Hill, who works for GJ Hulm & Co sold the livestock on behalf of Temora farmer Doug Constance.

“He just had really good lambs, so he needs to be commended for that,” Mr Hill said.

“I guess you never do expect [to break a record], but you always try to get that top price for your client.”

Mr Hill has been in the business for two decades, and said the record has been just one of many proud moments he has had so far.

“It’s just how I auction, I get excited about every sale.

“I think auctioning is just about being clear and knowing your product.”

For Mr Hill, livestock agency is something of a family business.

“When I left school, that’s all I wanted to do. My  father was a stock and station agent too, so I’ve just always been into it.”

But now that the record has been set it is back to business as usual for Mr Hill.

“You enjoy it while you’re there, but now I’m looking towards the next.

“Come Monday I’ve got a cattle sale and then Thursday it’s sheep again, so I’ve just got to prepare for those now.”
