The second-placed Wolves had only dropped one game all season (a 6-2 loss against Lake Albert) and were firm favourites to notch their ninth win on a chilly Saturday evening.
Leeton, however, had other ideas and made early in-roads to snare a 2-0 lead inside the opening quarter, courtesy of goals to Michael Di Lorenzo and Erik Listmann.
Tolland struck back with two goals of their own and looked set for a halftime deadlock before Di Lorenzo bagged his second goal just before the siren to take a 3-2 lead into the break.
The Wolves fought valiantly to try and reel in the deficit but the visitors proved a class above, Listmann scoring late to see Leeton home in a 4-3 classic.
Leeton assistant coach Joe Trifogli said the result proved his side could match it with the competition’s best.
“We haven’t had a smooth year but this game shows that once the players put their minds to it, they’re up for anything,” Trifogli said.
In this competition, anyone can beat anyone on their day and now that we’ve cracked two wins in a row, we’ve got the consistency to go on with it and get a few more wins.

Listmann and Di Lorenzo were standouts up front while Luke Madaglio was creative in midfield.
Aidan Amato also impressed for Leeton with a solid defensive effort at left back but Trifogli insisted it was an “all-round team effort”.
“We’ve really been stepping up our training and the boys were switched on last night,” Trifogli said.
“They were up for it and we had no passengers out there on the paddock.”
Tolland coach Daniel Lawrence conceded his side were outclassed by the visitors.
“Both teams scored some lucky goals and it could’ve gone either way in the end, but Leeton were right up for it,” Lawrence said.
“You tell from the way their bench players were getting involved and supporting the rest of the team that they were fired up and ready to play.
“If they can keep that team together, they’ll give other sides a real headache later on.”
Tolland’s second loss of the year will doubtless serve as a reality check ahead next weekend’s road trip to Young.
“It’s definitely a wake-up call for us and even though there’s still a big gap between us and third place, we can’t rest,” Lawrence said.
“It’s a big trip to Young and we’ve got to keep getting points.”
