However co-coach Dean Bristow was far from impressed from the performance at Equex Centre on Saturday.
“I’ll happily take the two points, but there is a lot to work on in my eyes,” Bristow said.
“Everything we spoke about and wanted to build on we went out there and didn’t apply.
“It feels like we are back to square one a little bit but at least in doing that we dug in and got the win.”
Bristow was in good form himself, scoring twice in the first half as the Blues took a 10-4 lead into the break.
He then helped set up Austin McDougall’s try to see the scoreline go out to 26-4 before Kangaroos hit back for two late tries of their own.
However he was disappointed with the error rate.
“We didn’t play anything to how we’ve trained all year,” Bristow said.
“We went away from our game plan and I don’t know if we just saw opportunities but we didn’t stick to what we spoke about and just go forward and complete our sets.
“We just coughed up too much ball and let them out of their own end with silly penalties.”
Tumut had a late reshuffle after Todd Broad was ruled out after going to hospital in the early hours of Saturday morning.
It meant Jason Webb shifted into hooker for the clash.
Tumut now face a tough clash at Twickenham against ladder leaders Brothers and centre Brayden Draber will be in doubt after coming off in the first half with a knee issue.
The loss is another big blow for the Wagga club’s final hopes.
They are now two wins adrift from the top four and face Temora next Sunday.
