The telco on Wednesday announced 8000 jobs would be shed over three years, as its infrastructure and mobile businesses were split up.
However, there has been no detail as yet on where those jobs would be lost, as Telstra consolidates its back office processes.
Telstra did not provide information on how the cuts could affect the Riverina, after being asked by The Daily Advertiser.
The 8000 jobs represent about a quarter of Telstra’s current workforce.
Between two and four layers of middle management layers would be eliminated, according to a statement from Telstra.
Union representatives have reacted angrily to the planned cuts.
"Today's jobs purge is the low-point of 20 years of privatisation, which has consistently taken the lower road of cutting jobs rather than investing in vital community infrastructure," Communications Workers Union national president Shane Murphy told Fairfax Media.
