Over 90 performing arts students from Kildare Catholic College have been busily rehearsing their variety concert Share the Love which opens this Thursday June 21 and runs over two weeks.
Director Michael Mack said it’s important for students to get involved in the creative arts, as it will set them up with skills for life.
“There’s commitment to a cause,” he said.
“There’s a level of team work that’s demanded, you try to set the bar as high as you can and aim for excellence and these kids have been keen to take that on.”
“The kids in Year 7 this year, you see them blossom and you see them become confident and poised.”
The students and teachers have dedicated hours of work outside school-times with rehearsals on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday afternoon and even some weekends.
Mr Mack said the teachers and students have had a ball and enjoyed the whole process.
“The concert is a combination of song, dance, music and performance covering a wide range of styles,” he said.
“There’s six other teachers on staff who have helped with choreography and other aspects and the input of those teachers has been outstanding.
“This is a show for all ages and promises bright lights, great music, big energy and some funny moments in between.”
Mr Mack said the performance is a way to show the community how integral the arts is.
“We want to have an equal footing with sport, creative arts have a place in the school community,” he said.
Share the Love will be held in the Kildare Hall and tickets can be purchased from the door.
