WAGGA residents could soon witness a new $5.3 million hotel development in the heart of the city.
This week, a development application for a four-storey hotel in a prominent central location has been submitted to Wagga City Council.
Boasting a close location to restaurants, cafes, retail outlets and the business district, the hotel will replace the Leisure Company on 81-83 Forsyth Street and corner of Tongaboo Lane.
Residents can expect modern features throughout, including a vertical garden wall at the front of the geometrically-rectangular building.
The development application suggested the facility would be comprised of 41 hotel rooms and a manager’s suite. There will also be 37 secured car parking spaces with two disabled. Other offerings in the hotel include 24-hour check-in console, a self-serve breakfast and guest lounge.
Based on other hotels in the area, from the Peter Street serviced apartments, The Club Motel, Best Western, Mercure, and the International Hotel, people could be expected to pay between $110-145, or an average of $125 per night.
The CBD location for this commercial hub will encourage walking and facilitate the use of public transport available to guests.
Potentially offering more employment in construction and the operation of the hotel, the development is likely to boost Wagga’s economy and potentially set the trend for more hotel openings in the area.
The hotel will accommodate large numbers of visitors, especially during peak periods such as Gold Cup.
