Conlan has been cleared home to the Swans to play a one-off game against Collingullie-Glenfield Park at Exies Oval.
A bye in the AFL Canberra competition paved the way for Conlan’s clearance after he missed selection with Canberra Demons in the North Eastern Australian Football League (NEAFL).
It means Conlan will be a straight swap for his younger brother Lucas, who will miss the game due to under 17 state representative commitments.
Griffith coach Will Griggs said Conlan will take his brother’s place at full-forward.
“We’ve been lucky enough to get him cleared back for the week,” Griggs said.
“AFL Canberra have the bye and he didn’t get picked in the NEAFL so lucky for us, one Conlan goes out and one Conlan comes in.
“I was talking to Kade Klemke, their NEAFL coach, and he wants him to play up forward. If he's going to make it back into their team it will be as a forward so I’m happy to accommodate that.”
The idea of Conlan’s return first got raised at Griffith on Tuesday and Griggs said it was a straight forward decision to make.
“Absolutely, we’re missing our big full-forward for a week with rep duties and his older brother is available. It was a pretty easy decision really,” he said.
“He’s played the last few years here, everyone knows him, he loves the club, so no one that missed out or anything had any issues with it.”
Griffith and Collingullie-GP are both undefeated after six rounds. The winner of Saturday’s clash will take outright top spot on the ladder.
The Swans are without Lucas Conlan, Ben King and key defender James Taylor, who are all unavailable.
Taylor’s omission means James Toscan and Guy Orton will take the key defensive responsibilities on Collingullie-GP coach Luke Gestier and star full-forward Marc Geppert.
“I think we’ll match up pretty well,” he said.
“Gep and Gestier are pretty big match ups but Geppert isn’t overly tall and uses his body quite well.”
