The Boiled Lollies led with around three minutes remaining at Conolly Rugby Complex on Saturday before Hamish McMahon scored to put Reddies back in front.
Wagga City were then right on CSU’s line as they looked to score the match winner before an error out wide dashed their hopes and gave CSU just their second win of the season.
Coach Mark Fisher was relieved to come away with the 30-26 win, especially after having to withstand one final assault on their line.
“The thing that won us the game was our defence,” Fisher said.
“It was a lot better than what we’ve done all year.”
Fisher believes “white line fever” gets to his playing group, but they managed to get the job done.
Despite being winless, Wagga City sit only two points behind Reddies due to their nine bonus points.
Averaging one a game this year, they picked up another two in loss on Saturday.
