The Eagles led by seven points at three-quarter-time but MCUE stormed home with the wind to win 17.15 (117) to 13.5 (83) at Narrandera Sportsground.
MCUE booted seven goals to one in the final term to continue their strong start to the year.
At the same time, the Eagles will walk away with confidence that their first win of the year is not far away after producing their most promising display yet.
MCUE coach Travis Cohalan conceded Narrandera pushed the Goannas all the way.
“I wouldn’t say I was very worried but they copped their first bake of the year at three-quarter-time,” Cohalan said.
“I thought Narrandera were very good with their pressure for the whole game, but especially early. Then they moved the ball well and took their chances.
“We were insipid at times, lazy and our work rate without the ball was very ordinary.
“But to their credit, they came out and played really well in the last quarter.”
Andrew Dickins was the Goannas’ best for the second consecutive week. He started at full-forward but was moved into the ruck to try and limit the influence Narrandera coach Jarred Lane was having on the contest.
He put up a big fight against Lane, and won plenty of the footy around the ground.
“He changed the course of the game,” Cohalan said.
Ryan Price was always threatening and finished with 3.8, while Paddy Griffin impressed, changing between forward and the midfield.
MCUE had 15-year-old Bailey Jones make his senior debut and he also performed strongly.
For Narrandera, Lane was very good, Corey Baxter continued his good form with a five-goal haul and Cooper Irons played well.
