Sea Buckthorn is my number one favourite thing to use for healthier skin. Traditionally it was used in Asia for the maintenance of healthy skin and mucous membranes. Sea buckthorn can be taken as a supplement or used topically in a moisturiser and is a plant-based source of omega 3, 6, 7 and 9 fatty acids. Our skin loves fats, but so does our brain and many other parts of the body. When we consume omega-3 fatty acids for example, organs like the brain often use them first and don’t leave much for our poor skin. The oils in Sea Buckthorn on the other hand, are soaked up by the skin straight away and can really help combat dry skin and some associated skin conditions.
Zinc has many roles in improving the health and appearance of the skin. It helps to transport vitamin A which is also an important nutrient. It helps to normalise the function of the oil producing skin cells, speeds up the healing of wounds and damaged skin and helps with the regulation of hormones.
Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant so it fights the free radical damage that causes wrinkles and dry skin. Turmeric has anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antimicrobial and blood purifying properties that mean it can be extremely effective in treating skin conditions and promoting healthy, youthful looking skin.
Aloe Vera can be used directly from the plant or you can buy pure Aloe Vera gel. It has powerful anti-inflammatory properties and can be applied topically on inflamed skin or the gel of the plant can be added to your smoothies. Staying hydrated is absolutely essential to prevent dry skin. Beautiful skin is made from the inside out.
