In line with one of the recommendations from a council advisor, the proposal for the “Riverside Apartments” on Sturt Street now includes a heritage-style facade.
Greg Howick from Fitzpatricks Real Estate said this would allow the building to blend into its surrounds, which include the court house.
“Under local zoning that’s deemed a heritage area so heritage advisers encourage new buildings to still have some remnants of the old presentations,” he said.
“The main key as you look down the main street is you will see the brick finish.
“You don’t want something stark sitting in the middle.”
An artist’s impression included in the application showed old-fashioned brickwork on the lower levels of the complex.
The proposed Riverside complex will feature 62 residential units over seven storeys, car parking over two storeys and integration into the Wiradjuri walking track and levee bank.
Mr Howick said the complex would cater to a market that was relatively untouched in Wagga.
“If you look at the markets in Sydney and Canberra they're finding the younger generations are taking on apartment living,” he said.
“It’s a benefit that someone can walk to shops and restaurants without having to worry about driving.”
Mr Howick was hopeful the proposal would be approved and said there had already been a healthy amount of interest.
The project was a largely Wagga-based affair, with Salvestro Planning and GPG Architects providing their expertise.
