The premier women’s side lost their opening game to the second-placed Suns 77-51 in Coffs Harbour but bounced back to beat Tamworth in a 64-57 thriller on Sunday.
Blaze leader Summa Stephens said travel was a major factor in one of the competition’s toughest double headers.
“Travelling that far is a big ask and we were definitely affected for that first game,” she said.
“We were right in the mix against Coffs Harbour but in the end we just got beaten by a better team.
Blaze star Khiani Clark scored a game-high 19 points against the Suns while Steph Male and Shakera Barnes scored 10 points apiece in the loss
“They had a counter to everything we threw at them,” Stephens said.
Sunday saw a vastly improved performance from an inspired Wagga outfit.
“We knew we had to beat Tamworth and the girls just drew a line in the sand,” Stephens said.
The results keep Wagga in touch with third-placed Shoalhaven, who will travel to Bolton Park Stadium this Saturday for a season-defining showdown.
“We know the Tigers will be a big ask but we’ve every intention of winning and cracking the top four,” Stephens said.
