After setting up Hayden Philp’s try with just seconds remaining Elwin kicked a conversion as the Dragons came from behind to take a 18-17 win.
The Temora captain-coach was thrilled to come away with their second win of the season.
“It is always very promising when you find the way to win when you are not getting many favours,” Elwin said.
“I’m a very, very happy man.”
Albury led 12-0 at half-time before tries to Elwin and Mitchell Wright scored to level things with 18 minutes to play.
Liam Wiscombe put the border side back in front when he crossed with nine to play before Cian Timmins kicked a field goal with four on the clock.
However a smart grubber kick from the Dragons halfback was pounced upon by Hayden Philp to score.
Elwin thought a bit of luck finally went their way.
“We didn’t get much luck during the game but in the end we found our own bit of luck, the ball bounced our way and Hayden jumped on it to score,” he said.
Philp and Kris Rands were strong up the middle for the Dragons while Elwin overcame a dislocated finger early in the game.
After a big recruitment drive following the homecoming of Adrian Purtell, Albury’s season is now hanging by a thread with just two wins from the first seven rounds of the season.
Meanwhile the Dragons will be looking for another when they host Gundagai at Nixon Park on Sunday.
