The Bombers’ centre-half-forward continued his superb form, as the home side withstood the early pressure in a tough first half at Langtry Oval, before turning it on in the second to win by 118 points, 25.15 (165) to 7.4 (47).
Marrar kicked 16 goals to two after half-time to stretch their unbeaten run to six games this year.
“They applied a fair bit of pressure and in the first half we probably weren’t that clean with our ball skills and that’s a credit to the opposition. They kept us under the pump a bit until half-time,” Marrar coach Shane Lenon said. “After half-time we certainly improved in that area and were able to open the game up a bit.”
Young forward Nathanael Mooney kicked five goals again in his second senior match while Matt Hort, Rory Block and Clint Taylor were also strong for the Bombers.
Marrar were without Shannon Williams (foot), who was a late withdrawal, while Jeremy Rowe, Brad Langtry and Rhys Mooney are among those available for selection for next Saturday’s centenary celebration game against the Northern Jets.
Lenon is pleased in the young talent making life tough for the club’s selectors.
“We’re probably luck, there’s five or six young blokes playing first grade and holding their own. And they’re fair dinkum blokes and serious about their footy so it’s a pleasure to coach them,” he said.
“And Drew Beavan (who was playing his third senior game), he made the state 16s side this week. He was notified on Thursday night, so that’s fantastic news for him – he’s playing some good footy.”
Barellan coach Will Overs was tireless all day for the Two Blues, in defence and in the midfield late, along with Jack Hillman. Sean Ellis was dangerous early, while David Dore kicked four of their seven goals.
