Former part time development officer Liam Dedini has been elevated to the new position as Wagga soccer’s governing body continues to attract membership.
Football Wagga president Tony Dobbin said Dedini’s appointment was an easy decision.
“During his time so far, he’s almost been putting in full time hours and he’s made real progress,” Dobbin said.
“As a person, he’s been extremely effective in getting around schools and introducing people to our game.
Football Wagga now has more than 3000 registered players and Dobbin believes a hands-on role is pivotal to ongoing growth.
“The development officer role is critical in strategies for the future,” he said.
“We’ve had tremendous success in the Mini Roos and also with high-school competitions, so we’re hoping Liam will continue to work with schools, clubs and coaches.”
A second development officer position remains unlikely, however, Football Wagga will be reviewing the role for potential growth.
“Liam has created heaps of networks for us … and if the sport continues to grow, we might have to look at splitting the role into a technical officer and a development officer,” Dobbin said.
“Our decision to make the development officer role full time is a big decision as is.”
