With the first half of the season now completed, the Steamers went around Griffith to sit in fifth courtesy of the 38-12 victory at Beres Ellwood Oval on Saturday.
It was their third win, plus a draw, but first away one of the season.
Coach Paul Musarra was pleased with how his team responded after a heavy loss to Tumut.
“It was good to win,” Musarra said.
“We played really well (in the half first), what we have been training for, and they didn’t have much of the ball at all.
“The second half got bottled down by some pretty scrappy play at the breakdown by both teams with a lot of penalties against both teams.”
It is something Musarra wants to work on, but he was impressed by how effective his team’s set piece, dominating both scrums and line outs.
Albury led 28-5 at half-time before the contest deteriorated in the second half.
Blake Le Cornu was strong in his return from a hernia operation at inside centre while the Steamers didn’t pick up any more injuries concerns.
Musarra believes Le Cornu will be a boost for their second half of the season as they fight for a return to finals for the first time since winning the premiership in 2015.
On the other hand their is plenty to work on for CSU, who have just the lone win to their credit so far.
