“I’m just so relieved, mate,” he said.
“It’s been such a long week.”
It’s been an even longer year for the Wagga Boat Club, who have limped through a lean summer season largely the result of dangerously high levels of blue green algae at the lake.
Today’s news that the Barry Carne Interstate Challenge would go ahead is the shining light at the end of the tunnel.
The prestigious water ski event was confirmed to go ahead after extensive council and stakeholder deliberation.

The annual Barry Carne Interstate Challenge, a water ski event which attracts racers from across NSW, ACT and Victoria, was at risk following the latest dangerous algae reading conducted at Lake Albert.

Less than 18 hours later, the drawcard event has been given the green light and the racing community is ecstatic.
“You don’t know how much this means to us,” water ski competitor Jacinta Evans said.
“The boat club has been through so much this year with the algae and it’s been a really bad season.
“Putting this event back on has saved the boat club.”
