Mater Dei made their opening performance of the competition count as they made light work of TRAC in a 78-point demolition, 13.19 (97) to 2.7 (19) at Robertson Oval.
Mater Dei were dominant from the outset but blew the game open in the second half with six unanswered goals.
TRAC remained competitive last week in a 35-point loss to reigning champions Kildare Catholic College, but were unable to match it with their latest opponents as Mater Dei made a statement with an emphatic win.
Mater Dei coach Nathan Irvine said it was as good of an opening performance as he’s seen during his tenure in charge.
“Yeah, we had a trial against Marist before holidays where we had 19 blokes out but the way we played and attacked the footy that day was pretty promising I thought for when we got the rest of the squad back in,” Irvine said.
“I thought we had size and strength on (TRAC) so we had to be physical tonight and we were happy with how the boys came switched on. The tackling and pressure was super.
“We just would have liked it if we kicked more goals than points, but we had a lot of the footy and chances.”
Rhys Mooney was a standout up forward and through the middle for Mater Dei, while Jack Carey and Corey Toole also played big games.
Meantime, Wagga High School also made a mark in their opening game of the competition, accounting for Mt Austin High School by 141 points.
Marc Bergmeier started like a house on fire for Wagga High with the first four goals of the game, before becoming a little inaccurate as the game went on.
It was an even team performance from Wagga High, with Jordan Prestage and Sam McGowan leading from the front.
Mt Austin never gave in and Rhys Weldon was a standout in defeat.
