But Murrumbidgee Turf Club CEO Scott Sanbrook said it would take more than a little bit of rain to stop the race day fun.
“We’re lucky in that the forecast is just for a small amount of rain, and if that’s the way it goes it will only have a little bearing on the event,” Mr Sanbrook said.
“We’re just keeping our fingers crossed that Mother Nature will smile down on us on Friday.”
The Wagga Bureau of Meteorology’s Nigel Smedley said there was a 90 per cent chance of Wagga getting anywhere between 5mm and 15mm of rain on race day.
“If we get 5mm, you’d get wet but it’s not a big deal, but if we get more than 10mm then that’s when you want to pull out your umbrella and a coat,” Mr Smedley said.
“It’ll reach 19 degrees during the day, so that’s still two degrees above the average temperature for May.”
Mr Smedley said there was also chance of a storm passing through Wagga on Friday, which will become less likely as the evening draws closer.
