During April 2002, Wagga experienced one of the most dramatic weather events in the city’s history – a shockingly powerful thunderstorm.
Though the heavy thunderstorm lasted just 30 minutes, the city was rocked with more than 11 millimetres of rain across the CBD, with the Bureau of Meterology registering a soaking 11.8 millimetres from 3pm to 6pm.
A number of residences in Wagga, Turvey Park and Kooringal were flooded in the deluge, with major shopping areas also under siege from the rising waters.
SES emergency services were run off their feet in the mayhem, with lightning strikes and flash flooding wreaking havoc across the Riverina.
Also remember the Queen mother? There’s news about her too!
