A spokesperson from Turvey Park Fire Station said there were four pumpers called to Sullivan Avenue from about 7.20am.
The crew managed to get the fire under control and extinguished the flames by 8.45am.
The owner’s father, Des Goonan, said the damage was particularly disappointing since his son had just finished renovating after owning the home for just 12 months.
“There was no one here at the time because he was away in Tumburamba,” he said.
“There’s a lot of damage but I suppose that’s what insurance is for.”
The kitchen and lounge room area received the most damage.
The cause of the fire is currently unknown.
