The growing sport has swept across the Riverina in recent years, sparking the formation of the Bidgee Dragons.
Now, the Wagga-based club is a mere signature away from obtaining their very own patch of land beside Lake Albert.
The proposed lot borders Wagga Sailing Club facilities off Plumpton Road.
“It’s very exciting,” Bidgee Dragons founder and secretary Denise Flockton said.
“Council has been totally supportive of us in our trying to secure a clubhouse.”
The proposed lot for development has come under scrutiny due to encroachment on reserve Scouts land, however Ms Flockton believes the agreement is a “mere formality”.
“We’ve had to go through the Department of Lands but we’re just waiting for the final sign-off,” she said.
“We’re hoping we might be able to get started soon and have the clubhouse operational for next season.”
The club has struggled with training over the summer period with blue-green algae preventing use of the lake.
“We’ve been travelling down to Albury and up to Temora for training,” Ms Flockton said.
“It’s been very frustrating but there are health concerns and we don’t want to put our team at risk.”
