After going through 2017 undefeated, the premiers dominated Albury at Murrayfield on Saturday with a 78-15 victory.
Despite having a number of players back up after needing to play second grade, Leeton still proved far too strong.
Co-captain Tim Rolls was impressed by how the team started off their campaign.
“Especially considering we had short, with quite a few players playing second and first grade, it was pretty impressive the way they were able to rally and points on the board,” Rolls said.
Halfback Freddy Tupou lead the way.
Rolls was impressed by how he controlled the ball movement and enabled the Phantoms to get well on top.
Sai Ratudradra had a strong game in the front row while newcomer Mesu Navakayala made a good first impression.
“He was just breaking the line at will,” Rolls said.
Leeton now tackle Tumut while Albury will be looking to hit back against Waratahs.
