The 84-year-old driver of a Mercedes Benz died at the scene after the Mercedes Benz left Urana Road, near Stoney Park Road, at Burrumbuttock around 3.30pm on Sunday.
The vehicle careered into a tree before bursting into flames.
The elderly man’s passenger, also an 84-year old man, was taken to hospital with critical injuries, police said.
Murray River Police District officers are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash and a report will be prepared for the coroner.
The crash brings the NSW road toll for the Easter long weekend to two, following the death of a 17-year-old boy in an eight-car crash at Woodbine on Friday night.
There were still a few Riverina residents behaving badly, with a 25-year-old P-plate driver losing his licence for six months on Saturday afternoon after he was caught travelling at 145km/h near Mundarlo.
The driver was issued an infringement notice for exceeding speed over 45km per hour and for not displaying his P-plates.
Meanwhile, a 46-year-old man in Gundagai was charged after drugs were allegedly found in his underwear following a random drug test on Friday.
Anyone with information relating to the crash is urged to contact Crime Stoppers by calling 1800 333 000 or via the online reporting page.
