Residents can now begin disposing of any food and garden waste in their green bins, including fruit and vegetable scraps, meat, tea and coffee, grass clippings, small branches, and leaves.
Even paper towels and some compostable plates and bags can be disposed of via the new green bins.
Carrathool-based processor Worm Tech Pty Ltd was contracted last week to process the FOGO waste for four weeks, while Wagga City Council will continue to negotiates a long-term arrangement with around 10 interested contractors.
Under the new kerbside collection service, these green-lid bins will be the only waste collected on a weekly basis, with the red-lid general waste and yellow-lid recycling services reduced to fortnightly collections.
The council will continue to collect and dispose of the old bins until April 20.
