The film has been written by director Christian Flores-Cordova from Sydney and stars around 30 locals.
As well as the people, iconic locations from around the town from the Conqueror Mill, farms, abattoirs, sheds, back roads and even parts of the railway will appear.
While keen to keep the plot and details under wraps, Mr Flores-Cordova said the film will feature zombies.
Mr Flores-Cordova said there were few Australian independent films which had been filmed and produced the way Z End had been.
“We’re half-way through, once the principal filming is done, we still have post-production to do,” he said.
He said the reception the film crew had received was “mind-blowing” and had been a “blessing” to the project.
“A warm reception makes a difficult task easier,” Mr Flores-Cordova said.
As well as featuring Cootamundra locations in the film, many residents have joined as cast members and extras.
Among them is Shaun Pepper who grew up in Cootamundra before joining the army, after he left the defence force he made his way into acting.
As Z End is an independent project, Mr Pepper said he found he was working on more than just his lines but also learning how to make fake blood, costumes, props and more.
“We’ve got a lot of talent here in Cootamundra,” Mr Pepper said.
The movie isn’t Mr Pepper’s first role after scoring parts on programs like Home and Away, but it is the first for Angela Fitzgerald and Graham Browning.
“It’s been a lot of fun,” Ms Fitzgerald said. “Shaun and Christian have kicked it off and it’s grown from there.”
Meanwhile, Damian Smith has put his CADAS skills and his experience as an extra for Baz Lurhman’s Australia to use as a cast member for Z End.
Mr Flores-Cordova said the aim was to give people the chance to see the movie through digital platforms like Netflix and Stan.
“It’s not a Hollywood film, it’s a modern digital movie – there’s no way to define it yet,” he said.
Z End is slated to be released in 2019.
