About 3am on March 4, police were patrolling Tolland for fires being lit.
They found a garbage bin under a carport and a roof of a home alight in Weedon Street.
Two police officers forced entry through the front door of the home with concerns that there could be people inside the house.
They searched the home and no one was found.
The officers were treated at the scene for smoke inhalation, with one of the officers taken to Wagga Base Hospital for treatment.
Neighbouring homes were evacuated and the fire was extinguished by Fire and Rescue NSW.
The home sustained significant damage.
Officers from the Riverina Police District attended and established a crime scene.
The cause of the fire is still to be determined, however, it is being treated as suspicious.
