The girls went one better than last year by defeating Nelson Bay 3-2 in the final.
In a tight affair, Bella McDermott’s opening try was just enough to take victory.
McDermott was named best in the final with her efforts cementing the victory.
The two teams finished at at one try a piece, but the first try is worth more points.
It was a very successful carnival for Wagga.
All 10 teams qualified for the final 16 in the various age groups.
It was enough for Wagga to finish second in the club championships.
Manly came out on top, but secretary Juanita Bailey was impressed with the consistency of the Vipers.
“It is a big effort,” Bailey said.
“We haven’t won the club championships since 2008.
“We have won three club championships, in 2003, 07 and 08, so it was good to be back near the top.”
Not only did the under 16s girls win their final, but under 18s girls were runner-ups.
They were beaten by Manly in the decider while the under 12 boys were also beaten by Manly in their final.
The under 14s girls made the semi-finals while the under 16 boys, under 14s and under 10s boys made the quarter-finals.
The under 18 boys, under 10s girls and under 12 girls didn’t progress past the last 16.
