Wagga Show Society secretary-manager Aileen Storey said the building was rundown and its cladding, which is cracked and peeling paint, contained asbestos.
“The cost of removing the asbestos, and renovating and repairing the building, would far exceed the gains from any future use,” Ms Storey said.
“The showground will get far more benefit from the open space once the building is removed.”
The old hall, which has a kitchenette and toilets, has been unused in recent years.
It is located between the Bourke Street entrance to the showground and the office building.
The show society has lodged a development application with Wagga City Council to remove the old building.
