The RAAF De Havilland Vampire aircraft, which overlooks Edward Street, was taken from its pylon on Wednesday morning to make way for roadworks and the relocation of a water main.
Within 24 hours, the aircraft had already been sprayed with the same graffiti tags covering a staggering number of buildings, shopfronts, and homes around the city,
The plane was placed behind a tall construction fence, but that did not stop the culprits.
A 20-year-old man who was believed to be involved in Wagga’s graffiti surge was arrested on Thursday afternoon after police executed a search warrant at his Kooringal home.
However, it is still unclear if the same man was behind the damage done to the Vampire.
It is understood the plane will be inspected, cleaned, and restored before it resumes its usual position in about two week’s time.
The Vampire has stood proud at Bolton Park since 1998.
