He served as the Minister for Housing and as the Sport, Recreation and Racing Minister in the Greiner and Fahey governments.
Mr Schipp began his career as a primary school teacher in Wagga before running for the seat left by Wal Fife, who had moved into federal politics.
During his time in parliament, Mr Schipp campaigned for the construction of the Gobbagombalin Bridge and consequently the growth of Estella and Boorooma. He also oversaw a new trotting and greyhound complex at Wagga Showground.
After he retired from politics, Mr Schipp continued to serve the community as a member of various groups, such as the show society and the Riverina Cancer Care Community Trust.
