Site owner Chris Egan conducted a community forum last Tuesday outlining a three-part development proposal at the old Wool Combing facility, an element of which involves the conversion of effluent ponds into a dump for non-odorous materials.
Mr Egan said his early fears were soon overcome.
“It was a really interesting as I hadn’t experienced hosting a forum before but overall it was very positive,” he said.
The property valuer said residents were initially resentful over the odour coming from the ponds but started to lend their support after hearing of the plan to remove smells from the area.
“It seemed as though landowners from neighbouring properties had a lot of resentment towards development but when we started explaining our plan to remove odour, people started coming around,” Mr Egan said.
NGH Environmental Riverina and Western NSW manager Michael Sutherland said last week’s consultation consisted of three parts.
“There was a 30 minute presentation around the technical features of the proposal followed by an hour of open questions from the floor,” he said.
“We also conducted two one-on-one consultations with residents.”
Mr Sutherland said the night was simply about providing additional information on the development and that NGH Environmental was there to “prepare and independent environmental assessment of the development.”
