Pam Jones said the seed was planted six years ago when she was talking to her daughter about starting a business, but it wasn’t until earlier this year she found the right space, behind Southern Cross Performing Arts on Chaston Street.
“Hopefully we’ll be open in early September if all goes well,” she said.
“We’re going to have a room for birthday parties and I want to run Friday night discos.
“My kids used to love to skate, we want to achieve a place where a parent can feel comfortable leaving their kids for a couple of hours.”
While the initial plans for the new skating rink are modest, if all goes well there could be even more to come in the future.
“I’ve spoken to the Derby Dolls about learn to skate classes and them doing training,” Ms Jones said.
“There’s been positive feedback and I think people will embrace it, we’ll start small and build it up from there.”
