The 18-year-old trained her first winner at Wagga on Tuesday night, with Spooky Dreams gaining the perfect run.
Given a sublime drive by Bruce Harpley after getting caught three back along the pegs, Spooky Dreams ($3.80) didn’t go around a horse to defeat Drunken Jeff ($1.80 fav) by a half head and take out the Boulevarde Motor Inn Pace (2165m).
Turton was thrilled to bring up her first win at start six as a trainer.
“It’s a good feeling,” Turton said.
“I was a bit worried he wasn’t going to get there for a while but he got out there and done the job.”
Turton, who is still chasing her first win as a driver, was originally down to drive the five-year-old but gave Harpley the drive.
It proved to be a masterstroke.
The 18-year-old, who works for Harpley, wanted to get Harpley’s thoughts on the horse and it turned out better than she expected.
“I thought I’d give it to Bruce to see what he thought of the horse, to see how he would go and get some advice of him,” Turton said.
“He’s very good like that, gives me heaps of pointers and helps me out a fair bit.”
