His stellar performance in the first week of the show set tone for southern NSW to keep dominating on the prize podium.
To back up the results fellow auctioneer Samuel Gemmell of Cootamundra was runner up and Wagga counterpart Will Stoddart earned the encouragement award.
“It is one of the best feelings I have ever had … it was overwhelming,” Mr McGeoch told The Daily Advertiser.
“I knew I had a good run and I didn’t make any mistakes, but it is still a big surprise to get the state title.”
Mr McGeoch was busy at the Adelong cattle sales on Wednesday but was keen to take time out to acknowledge the grounding he had received in his career from fellow Landmark Wagga colleagues.
“Wagga is a good training ground, and we have a very elite selling centre, it is very professional and I am fortunate to have it on my doorstep.”
He applauded the Wagga Livestock Marketing Centre and was grateful for the opportunities to sell at both the weekly sheep and cattle sales.
Former young auctioneers competition winner and fellow Landmark livestock agent Peter Cabot was also credited with providing plenty of advice along the way.
SHEEP EXHIBITS: The region’s Border Leicster breeders dominated the judging in the sheep pavillion. The Wattle Farm Stud at Temora, and Retallack of Ariah Park earned the grand champion ram and ewe titles.
And the Bauer Border Leicester Stud, Ariah Park, exhibited the reserve champion senior ewe, which went on to win the reserve grand title. Retallack’s success continued in the group judging where the stud earned a win.
CATTLE AUCTION: Ireland’s Angus at Book Book has made headlines plenty of times in the and this year was no exception with a heifer from this stud going under the hammer at the show to make a whopping $29,000.
SHOWGIRL: Wagga’s Showgirl Emma Gorman had success after being named first runner up in The Land showgirl competition.
- The Sydney Royal Easter Show judging continues with beef cattle, dairy and equestrian events.
