With the match in the balance until the final minutes, Jon Huggett off-loaded to Hugh Duncan who scored on the buzzer to secure victory.
Andrew Smith, Dave Cowhan, Ben Taylor and Shannon Rupapare were best for the visitors while Temora, who finished with 12 players due injuries, were led superbly by workhorse Hayden Philp.
Thunder president Rick O’Connell was pleased to start on a winning note.
“I would say execution was the loser,” O’Connell said.
“It probably wasn’t the best game you could see but they only give you two points for a win anyway.
“It was good to come away with the points.”
