Ian Stewart Hamilton, 39, repeatedly punched the tradie in the ute’s cabin in Pitt Street on March 10 before demanding to be driven to Wagga.
He pleaded guilty in Central Local Court on Thursday to aggravated assault with intent to take a motor vehicle, assaulting a police officer and resisting police.
Hamilton has been In custody since his arrest at the scene.
