ONLY two Southern District horses are among the 26 nominations for Friday’s $180,000 Albury Gold Cup (2000m).
Albury trainer Kym Davison has Overdue and Wagga trainer Chris Heywood has Not Too Sure among the entries for the feature race.
Group three winner Red Excitement heads the nominations, which also features 2012 Albury Gold Cup winner Extra Zero.
Premier Victorian trainer Darren Weir is poised to have his first Albury Gold Cup runner after he nominated Italian import Goldstream.
The Hayes and Dabernig, Lee and Anthony Freedman, Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott, Gerald Ryan, Tony McEvoy and Bjorn Baker stables have all nominated horses for the Cup.
Overdue will be the only hometown hope in the field after he booked his spot in the Cup with a win in the Tom Patton Cup at Wagga last month.
He also secured a berth in the $150,000 Wagga Gold Cup with a win in Sunday’s Albury Mile.
