South Wagga Apex took out the Eric Hooper Service award for its Meals on Wheels (MoW) Easter Wish, which involved club members granting MoW clients’ wishes by doing small jobs around their homes that they could no longer do for themselves.
More than a dozen Apexians donated their time to help more than 25 MoW customers.
South Wagga Apex service director Andrew Roberts founded the project because his grand father had founded the MoW program in Wagga many years before.
The second award – the Donald Mackay Citizenship Initiative Award – was given to the South Wagga club for Wagga’s Biggest Ever Blokes Lunch.
The lunch event is a fundraiser to both raise money and awareness for men’s health issues, particularly prostate cancer.
The third award – the Kava Bowl International Service Scheme Award – was for the club’s continued commitment to help out residents in Cambodia.
In July 2014, Mark Stephenson and Peter Hastie put a team together to raise more than $80,000 over 12 months to assist Cambodians with health and education.
