When bestselling author, journalist and presenter Indira Naidoo comes to Wagga, she is offering a chance to roll up your sleeves and create a small balcony garden, side by side with her in an intimate workshop setting.
No camera tricks, no "here's one we created earlier" - just an hour with a celebrity gardener to create something beautiful and edible that you can take home with you.
While she is most commonly recognised for her stints anchoring ABC's late edition nightly news and SBS television's World News Tonight, Naidoo has forged a parallel career as a sustainability communicator.
In recent years she has worked as a consultant with the United Nations’ trade development arm The International Trade Centre, a climate change presenter, and an outspoken advocate of Sydney's beloved homelessness organisation The Wayside Chapel.
Her bestselling book The Edible Balcony provides a cornucopia of inspiration for would-be kitchen gardeners.
The workshop is open to participants of any age, and thumbs that aren't of the green variety are very welcome to participate.
The workshop takes place on the museum's own balcony garden at our Botanic Gardens site up Lord Baden Powell Drive, from 1pm to 2pm.
To book your place in Indira Naidoo's Edible Balcony Workshop, go to the events tab of www.museumriverina.com.au - tickets are $35.
Naidoo will also present a free public talk on Saturday, March 4 from 10.30am to 11.30am in the Council Meeting Room (opposite the entrance to the Wagga City Library), sharing her insights about producing food in small spaces, and the many rooftop gardens she has created.
Nasty Women live and loud
STRAP yourself in for some inspiring and challenging talks from leading female thinkers when the All About Women festival beams live into Wagga on Sunday, March 5.
In its fifth year, All About Women is one of Sydney Opera House’s flagship festivals – with a live satellite screening of two of the biggest talks coming directly to Wagga.
From 10.30am, acclaimed actress and Olympian Geena Davis will kick off the festival with a talk about women and media.
At 11.30am, Wagga's audience will have a chance to ask questions directly to writer Jessa Crispin, author of the book Why I Am Not A Feminist.
The final hour of our broadcast, commencing at noon, takes in a panel of “Nasty Women”, including Yassmin Abdel-Magied, Van Badham, Celeste Liddle and Lindy West.
These four dynamos will ask what it is about women with opinions, or aspirations to power, that brings out the worst in our culture.
And what happens when women stop being afraid, and 'nasty woman' becomes a badge of honour?
Wagga’s All About Women satellite screening happens on Sunday, March 5 from 10.15am to 1pm in the Council Meeting Room (opposite the entrance to the Wagga City Library).
This is a free event, but please RSVP for catering purposes via the events tab at www.museumriverina.com.au or by calling 6926 9655.
