Cr Conkey said the singer would have the full support of Wagga City Council if he ever decided to perform here.
“We would certainly love to be involved,” he said.
“If we could get him, it would be fabulous.
“Wagga would welcome him with open arms.”
Cr Conkey spoke about Sheeran possibly sharing the stage in Wagga as soon as this weekend with The Beach Boys and The Temptations.
“Surely he could sing a few songs,” he said.
Cr Conkey said he would even commit to wearing full ceremonial robes, hat and chains to welcome to singer in 40-plus degrees Celsius.
The Daily Advertiser’s poll on best venues for Sheeran to perform at is currently topped by the Music Bowl.
More than 40 per cent of voters wanted the Botanic Gardens site.
“That’s a great venue,” Cr Conkey said.
It was followed by the Murrumbidgee Turf Club and the Equex Centre.
“It’d be great for the economy and the community to see such an international artist,” Cr Conkey said.
“It would showcase the city to Australia and the rest of the world.”
